Defeated enemies drop items that refill health or magic, grant an extra life, hurt you if you grab the wrong one, or add experience. Gaining a level raises Thonolan's maximum magic and teaches new kicks, including sliding, flying, roundhouse and butterfly kicks, so his moveset widens as the journey gets harder. Spells found along the way deal damage, shield him or restore health, and choosing between a kick and a spell is the heart of most fights.
