langrisser-ii-genesis
Langrisser II - for Genesis

Langrisser II is a strategy role playing game for the Sega Genesis, developed and published by NCS in 1994, and it is the sequel to the game Western players know as Warsong. Its story picks up several years later: the benevolent kingdom of Baltia is gone, the Rayguard Empire has risen in its place, and the Empire has made a pact with the malevolent Lord Böser, who is hunting the most powerful evil sword in the land, Alhazard. As the knight Elwin, you join the Descendants of Light in the search for the legendary holy sword Langrisser, the one artifact said to be stronger than Alhazard.

Like Warsong before it, Langrisser II is turn based and fought scenario by scenario across varied battlefields. Your army is built from generals, who are strong enough to fight alone, and the soldier units who follow them, and preparation counts for a great deal: before a scenario begins you hire soldiers, buy weapons and sort out items. On the map, moving into contact with an enemy unit triggers an automatic battle sequence, and magic gives you a further layer to work with, healing your own troops or striking at the enemy from a distance.

Langrisser II is held in high regard for the way it balances hard tactical decisions with characters you grow attached to, and for campaigns long enough that one bad move can echo through several scenarios. Veterans of Warsong in particular tend to find it the richer and deeper of the two. For collectors, Langrisser II is one of the highlights of the Genesis strategy library and a natural companion on the shelf to the game that started the series.

Genre: Strategy RPG

Players: 1

Region: NTSC

Release Year: 1994

Developer: NCS

Cartridge Only: No Box or Manual
Please note that this listing is for the game cartridge only.
