street-cop-nes
Street Cop - for NES

Street Cop is a Power Pad game developed by Sonata and published by Bandai for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. You play Little Ben, who grew up on these crime ridden streets having his lunch money taken by local bullies, and who has come back with a job to do as a rookie cop determined to make the city safe for the decent people in his neighborhood. Street Cop stands out because of how you play it: this is one of the titles built for Nintendo's floor mat controller, so chasing down villains means moving your feet.

Street Cop is a one player game. Using the Power Pad and the Culprit Indicator, you lead Little Ben on daring chases through the city streets, running down suspects and working out which of the figures around you is the one you actually want. Special weapons and power enhancers turn up along the way to even the odds against the local villains and their dangerous cohorts. The mix of running on the spot and picking the right target gives Street Cop a rhythm quite unlike anything played with a standard controller in your hands.

Street Cop is remembered as one of the curiosities of the Nintendo Entertainment System catalog, and that is exactly why people seek it out. The Power Pad library is small, and every title in it captures a moment when Nintendo was experimenting with how players might move. Collectors who own the mat will want Street Cop sitting next to it, and even players who simply enjoy the stranger corners of the library will find it a good story to tell. Worth noting: getting the most out of Street Cop does mean having a Power Pad to hand.

Genre: Beat 'em Up

Players: 1

Region: NTSC

Release Year: 1987

Developer: Sonata

Cartridge Only: No Box or Manual
Please note that this listing is for the game cartridge only.
