target-renegade-nes
Target - Renegade - for NES

Target: Renegade is a side scrolling brawler for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Software Creations and published by Taito in 1990, carrying on the street fighting of Renegade. Mr Big is back in town, and this time he has your brother, held at Big's Pig Pen on the upper side of town. Every gang in the city is out looking for you, which is the whole shape of the game: one person against a city, walking in the only direction that matters. Target: Renegade has a grubby late eighties city look that suits the story perfectly.

You start with nothing but your fists, and learning what they can do is the first job: punches, kicks and the timing that keeps two attackers from closing in at once. Along the way weapons turn up, baseball bats and garbage cans among them, and they change a fight completely for as long as they last. This is arcade style action for one player, with gang after gang between you and the Pig Pen, enemies that arrive in groups and a pace that expects you to be patient about it. Target: Renegade is not shy about its difficulty, and clearing a street feels properly earned.

Target: Renegade is still a favorite among brawler fans for its atmosphere and its rhythm, and the soundtrack gets singled out as some of the finest music on the console, which is no small claim. Software Creations built its reputation on exactly that kind of technical flair. For collectors it is a Taito release with a British pedigree and a strong name in the genre, and it sits well beside the other beat them up cartridges of the era. If you are filling out a Nintendo Entertainment System shelf, Target: Renegade is one worth seeking out.

Genre: Brawler

Players: 1

Region: NTSC

Release Year: 1990

Developer: Software Creations

Cartridge Only: No Box or Manual
Please note that this listing is for the game cartridge only.
