Bomberman 64 - The Second Attack! - for N64

Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! is an action platformer developed by Hudson Soft and published by Vatical Entertainment for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. It picks up after Bomberman's victory over Altair and Sirius: while celebrating on a hot spring planet he finds a mysterious egg, carries it onto his ship and is promptly pulled into a black hole. He wakes up in a jail cell, the egg hatches, and a charabom named Pommy helps him escape. From there, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! becomes a chase after elemental crystals held by the evil Rukifellth and his Astral Knights.

Adventure mode moves through a set of elemental worlds, each with its own look and its own puzzles, and the crystals you recover feed straight back into your arsenal: bombs take on elemental properties that change how you clear rooms and handle enemies. Pommy travels with you, can be fed and raised, and grows into different forms depending on how you treat him, which gives the game an unusual pull for the series. Along the way you meet Lilith, a girl apparently working toward the same goal, and one of the knights turns out to be Regulus under the name Bulzeeb, still owed a rematch. Up to four players can drop into the multiplayer battles as well.

This one is a favorite for good reason. It gave Bomberman a real story, a companion to care about and bomb mechanics with more depth than any entry before it, and the balance of single player adventure and four player chaos suits almost any evening. It is also one of the most sought after Nintendo 64 releases, a late title that many players only ever read about, so getting Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! onto a shelf genuinely means something to collectors. If you are assembling a Nintendo 64 library with real highlights in it, this belongs near the front.
