Bubble Bobble Part 2 came to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by ITL and published by Taito. It introduces a new breed of heroes: Cubby and Rubby, descendants of the famous Bubby, who must battle the Skull Brothers and their army of fiends to rescue a friend in danger. Arriving very late in the life of the system, Bubble Bobble Part 2 keeps the bright colors and gentle humor the series is known for, while giving the bubble blowing dinosaurs a brand new adventure to work through.
Everything in Bubble Bobble Part 2 runs on bubbles. Your dinosaur blows them to trap the fiends crowding each stage, then bursts them to clear the screen, and a well placed bubble can also be bounced on to reach a ledge above. Special bubbles and items turn the odds around, bringing fire, floods and tornado down on anything in the way, and the Skull Brothers are waiting at the end of the fight. Bubble Bobble Part 2 has room for two players, so Cubby and Rubby can share the rescue.
Players still love Bubble Bobble Part 2 for the same reason they love the series as a whole: it is easy to start, hard to put down, and friendly enough that anyone will pick up a controller. The stages are short and tempting, the music is cheerful, and there is always one more secret to chase. As one of the last releases for the console, Bubble Bobble Part 2 is a satisfying find for a Nintendo Entertainment System shelf, and it completes the family of games that began with the first Bubble Bobble.
