Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest is the second Genesis outing for the coolest cat in the snack aisle, developed and published by Kaneko in 1993. Where the first game kept Chester penned up in a zoo, Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest sends him out across the country. It arrived as a full 8 meg, 16 bit platform adventure, and the extra room shows in the cool characters and wild style graphics that give the game its look.
Chester's travels take him to places whose names set the tone straight away: Not So Great Falls in Montana, Unclearwater in Florida, and Little Shock in Arkansas. Each town wants to bring him down, and none of them can quite keep up with a cat that knows where it is at, so you follow your feet, take to the street and keep moving. Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest is a single player platformer that leans on personality as much as challenge, with the law of the paw as its only real rule: stay cool and run for the fun.
Players still enjoy Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest for its sheer commitment to a joke. The rhyming attitude, the punning place names and the loud color palette make it unmistakably of its moment, and that is exactly why it is a pleasure to pull off the shelf now. Collectors tend to want both Chester games side by side, and this is the larger and more ambitious of the pair. If you are building a run of Genesis mascot platformers, Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest is the cheerful entry that completes the set.
