Cyborg Justice is a fighting and brawling game developed by Novotrade Software and published by Sega of America for the Sega Genesis in 1993. It is set in a near future where anarchy has taken hold, cyborgs control the streets, and they settle their disputes themselves. What makes Cyborg Justice memorable is that it opens not with a character select screen but with a workshop. Arms, body and legs are chosen separately, the game counts 216 possible combinations, and the machine you carry into the arena is genuinely your own.

Once you are built, Cyborg Justice becomes a scrolling fight against other cyborgs. You can punch and grapple, use the weapons bolted to your arms, or mix the two, and the parts you picked decide which approach actually works. The best idea in the game is that those parts are not permanent: beat an opponent and you can tear an arm free and fit it to yourself, which turns a hard fight into an upgrade. Two players can also face each other directly, and settling who built the better machine is where many evenings with this one have gone.

Players remember Cyborg Justice for the creation screen as much as for the combat. Building a machine and then watching it come apart under fire has a satisfaction a fixed roster cannot give, and the heavy, clanking animation sells every hit. Collectors treat it as one of the more inventive brawlers in the Genesis library, a game doing something nobody else in the genre was trying.
