Etrian Odyssey III - The Drowned City - for NDS

Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City is a dungeon crawling RPG developed and published by Atlus for the Nintendo DS in 2010. It is adventure and discovery in the purest sense, carrying players to a sparkling oceanic paradise filled with atmospheric dungeons to chart and survey, vast watery expanses to sail across, and rumors of a sunken city waiting to be investigated. What makes Etrian Odyssey III stand out is that sense of open water: the labyrinth is only part of the map, and the sea beyond it keeps promising somewhere new to put ashore.

Aspiring explorers chart their own travels with the intuitive touchscreen map editor, and careless cartography can easily spell doom for a tired party trying to escape danger. You assemble and fully customize your adventurers from a range of highly specialized classes and subclasses, which makes party building a long and satisfying puzzle in its own right. Challenges demand cunning and strategy rather than quick fingers, so supplies, skills and a safe route home all matter. Voyages across the ocean open up new ground between descents. For the patient and prepared, fame and fortune await.

Players still love Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City for its atmosphere above all: the light on the water, the quiet of the depths, and the slow filling in of a map that nobody drew for you. The class and subclass freedom makes each playthrough feel like your own project, and the sea gives the series a warmth it had not shown before. For collectors it closes out the Nintendo DS trilogy, and it is often the entry longtime fans name as their favourite, which makes it a fine cartridge to own.
