Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing is a boxing simulation developed by Acme Interactive and published by Sega of America in 1992, built around the heavyweight champion who lends it his name. Holyfield is the only licensed boxer in the game, with the rest of the field made up of fictional fighters, and the design takes a measured, strategic approach rather than a cartoon one. Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing is played from a pseudo 3D side view, with movement around the ring handled by scrolling the backdrop and shifting the ropes, while a small overhead camera at the top of the screen keeps track of where both fighters are standing.
Quick exhibition bouts are there when you want an immediate fight, but the heart of the game is Career mode. You create a boxer first, choosing the head, skin color, trunks and hair, then setting physical attributes for dominant hand, power, speed, recovery and stamina. Mental attributes matter just as much: a style of brawler, dancer, boxer or dodger, a killer instinct rated low, medium or high, and favorite punches for each hand, whether jabs, straights or hooks aimed at the head or the torso. From there you climb a ranking list of fifteen boxers toward Holyfield himself, with training exercises between matches to build your stats. Two players can also step into the ring together.
What keeps Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing in rotation is the depth behind the gloves. Reading an opponent, guarding, picking the right punch and managing stamina across the rounds all count, and a created fighter who survives the climb feels earned. Collectors value it as one of the more serious sports simulations on the Genesis and as a good example of early 1990s athlete licensing, and it sits comfortably next to the system's other sports cartridges.
