Grand Theft Auto - for GBA

Grand Theft Auto Advance brings Rockstar's long running series to the Game Boy Advance, developed by Digital Eclipse Software and published by Rockstar Games in 2004. The story is built on revenge: you are framed for a murder after one last job for Vinnie, a local mob boss, ends with his car in pieces and your payday gone with him. Every cop in Liberty City is looking for you, and Grand Theft Auto Advance keeps you in town until you find out who set you up and shut them down.

Play returns to the overhead view of the earliest Grand Theft Auto games, with Liberty City laid out around you, traffic to weave through, cars to take and jobs handed out by the people who run the place. You drive, you fight, you run from a police force that grows more interested the more trouble you cause, and you can set the story aside whenever you feel like exploring instead. It is a single player game, paced in compact missions that suit a handheld, with odd jobs and distractions waiting between the main ones.

Grand Theft Auto Advance holds a curious place in the series: it is the entry that went small, trading open 3D streets for a top down Liberty City, and plenty of players prefer it for exactly that reason. Seeing a series this big fitted onto a cartridge is part of the charm, and the hard boiled revenge plot gives it a tone of its own. For collectors, Grand Theft Auto Advance is a notable piece of Game Boy Advance history and a title that still draws attention in any library.
