Littlest Pet Shop: Country Friends is a Nintendo DS life simulation game developed by Electronic Arts Salt Lake and published by Electronic Arts in 2009. Released in the same year as City Friends, Country Friends takes the Hasbro pet characters out to the countryside and fills the cast with new faces: the Great Dane, the Peacock, the Collie, the Ladybug and many more, all packed full of personality. A new story guides you along your journey, and this time each pet has a best friend who helps with the preparations, which gives Littlest Pet Shop: Country Friends a warmer, chattier feel than a straight collecting game.
The game moves through mini games and small tasks that bring you closer to the celebration at the end. You play, you earn, you decorate, and for the first time in the series you can design your own accessories and style out your pets in your own unique way, which turns dressing up into something closer to making. Multiplayer is a highlight: enhanced features let two players connect wirelessly and enjoy the fun side by side, so a real life best friend can join the pets and their best friends.
Country Friends endures because it is generous with small pleasures. The pets have character, the pace is kind, and the goal is always something to look forward to rather than something to beat.
