Pinball brings the arcade table into the living room, developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo in 1984 as part of the first wave of Nintendo Entertainment System titles. It stands out for how early it arrived and how confident it already feels: the ball carries real weight and speed, the bumpers answer back, and the whole table reads clearly at a glance. Pinball is Nintendo at its most direct, taking a machine everyone knew from arcades and rebuilding it in a few colors and a handful of sounds, and it remains one of the cleanest expressions of what the console could do in its opening year.
The table is spread across an upper and a lower screen, so Pinball keeps you tracking the ball as it travels between them while you work the double flippers to hold it in play. Points come from bumpers, drop targets and the slot machine style features along the way, and clearing the right ones sends you to a bonus round where Mario catches a falling woman on a bouncing platform. Two players take turns and chase each other's totals, and because a game lasts only as long as your last ball, the pressure builds quickly.
Players still love Pinball because it asks nothing of you but attention: pick it up, flip, and either the ball survives or it does not. That simplicity has aged very well, and the bonus round is still one of the friendliest surprises in the early Nintendo catalogue. For collectors, Pinball is a cornerstone piece, a 1984 Nintendo R&D1 release that sits naturally beside the other launch era titles and shows plainly where the library began. Any shelf built around the Nintendo Entertainment System feels a little incomplete without it.
