Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Swamp - for NDS

Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Swamp is an action adventure for the Nintendo DS, developed by Torus Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2010. It puts the whole of Mystery Inc. on the case: Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred set out to uncover the mystery behind a strange swamp girl and her peculiar cauldron of brew. What makes Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Swamp stand out is how far the trail leads. The gang travels well beyond the swamp itself, into a snow covered Alpine village and a Southwestern ghost town, picking up clues in every new place they land.

Play follows the shape of a good episode. You explore each haunted locale, hunt for clues, work through the story and keep moving when something decides to chase you. Different members of the gang come into their own as the adventure goes on, and the two screens of the DS keep your information and the action close together. It is pitched at younger players and at anyone who grew up on the cartoons, so the pace stays generous and the spookiness stays the friendly kind, with the mystery of the strange brew holding the whole investigation together.

Players keep coming back to Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Swamp because it treats the cartoon with real affection. The running gags, the chases and the unmasking are all where they should be, and the change of scenery from bayou to mountain village to desert town gives it more variety than most licensed handheld games manage. For collectors, it is one of the better Scooby-Doo outings on the Nintendo DS and a natural pick for a shelf of family friendly adventures. Good company for a rainy afternoon and a bag of Scooby Snacks.
