Super Robot Taisen OG Saga - Endless Frontier - for NDS

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier is a science fiction and fantasy role playing game for the Nintendo DS, developed by Monolith Soft, published by Atlus and released in 2009. It grows out of the long running Super Robot Taisen series but stands on its own, carrying players across a set of connected worlds that range from an apocalyptic wasteland strewn with the hulks of downed spaceships to a storybook land of fairy tales and dark magic. At its center is Haken Browning: gunslinger, professional bounty hunter and amateur ladies' man, travelling with a motley crew of robots, werebeasts, secret agents and princesses.

Battles are where Endless Frontier shows its personality. Fights are turn based, but each turn is an invitation to keep going. You queue long strings of attacks for your party, time your inputs to hold enemies in the air, and call in support from characters waiting at the edge of the fight, stretching a single turn into an enormous combo. Learning which attacks launch, which keep an enemy up and which finish the job is the heart of the game, and the numbers climb fast once it clicks. Between battles come exploration, shopping and upgrades, with a story that moves through its worlds toward a threat facing the whole multiverse.

Players still love Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier for its tone as much as its fighting. It is loud, funny and unembarrassed, with a cast that talks constantly and a battle system that repays practice with spectacle. Fans of Monolith Soft find the studio's fingerprints all over it, and anyone who enjoys an RPG that asks for timing as well as planning will find it unusually satisfying. For collectors, it is one of those Nintendo DS role playing games that quietly became a favorite: an Atlus published title with its own identity, and a cartridge always welcome on a DS shelf.
