Super Robot Taisen - Original Generation - for GBA

Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation is a strategy role playing game developed by Banpresto and published by Atlus, arriving on the Game Boy Advance in 2002. It is set two hundred years into the Space Era, after meteor strikes threw humanity into chaos and the Earth Federal Government recovered secret technology, known as EOT, from a third meteor. Fearing the arrival of the aliens who created it, the Federation builds giant humanoid machines called Personal Troopers. What sets Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation apart is that it builds its war entirely from the series' own cast of pilots and machines.

Battles play out on grid maps, one turn at a time. You move each machine into position, weigh range and terrain, pick a weapon, then watch the attack unfold in detailed animation. Pilots matter as much as hardware, since each brings their own stats, skills and spirit commands that can sharpen accuracy, restore energy or strengthen a strike at a crucial moment. Between missions you spend what you earn on upgrades, fit new parts and plan which units to field next. The campaign shifts with the lead pilot you follow, and the scale grows as the Divine Crusaders and the alien Aerogaters pull the conflict in different directions.

Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation holds a special place for strategy fans because it was the first game in this long running series to be released in English, and because its own cast gave newcomers a way in without needing to know decades of mecha history. The mix of patient tactical planning and loud, expressive robot combat still lands. On a Game Boy Advance shelf it stands out as a serious, meaty campaign among the system's lighter fare, and as a landmark for anyone who follows the genre.
