TNN Bass Tournament of Champions - for SNES

TNN Bass Tournament of Champions came to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, developed by Gaps and published by American Softworks. It carries the name of The Nashville Network, the cable home of outdoor and fishing programming, and it sets out to put that unhurried weekend feeling in front of you. TNN Bass Tournament of Champions is a bass fishing game for one player, and it is honest about what that means: quiet water, careful choices and the long wait that makes a strike feel earned rather than handed to you.

You start by picking out a favorite spot and stopping by the Pro Shop to gear up, then choose a lure and get a line in the water. The game is about sounding out where the bass are holding and matching your gear and your patience to them, and it makes clear that luck alone will not catch the big ones. The frame around all of it is a tournament, so you are fishing against the clock and the scales, and the weight you bring back is the only argument that counts. TNN Bass Tournament of Champions also nods to its television roots, pointing players toward TNN Outdoors for tips.

Fishing games have a devoted following, and TNN Bass Tournament of Champions is a good example of why. It is calm company, the sort of game you can play in the evening without being shouted at, and the tournament structure gives that calm a point. For collectors it fills one of the quieter corners of the Super Nintendo library, where cable television branding and sports simulation met in the mid 1990s, and it is a pleasing thing to keep on the shelf next to the louder cartridges.
