Traysia - for Genesis

Traysia is a role playing adventure for the Sega Genesis, developed by Riot and published by Telenet Japan in 1992. It begins quietly: young Roy is left by his uncle at the gates of the mysterious Kingdom of Salon, with a parting promise that they will meet again at Johanna, and that Roy had better be a strong, grown up man by then. From there Traysia sends him out to seek his destiny as a fortune hunter, and his small personal story opens into something much larger when he uncovers a plot by a group of wizards bent on unleashing chaos and destruction throughout the world.

Traysia plays as a single player quest across towns, wilderness and the dangers in between. Roy makes friends as he travels, gathering a team of adventurers who bring their own magic and might, and he gains experience as a swordsman with every fight along the way. Much of the appeal is in the exploring: talking to townspeople, following the next lead, and deciding when your party is ready for the road ahead. The wicked sorcerers and their schemes give the journey a clear shape, but Traysia is happy to let you wander, build your party up and take the adventure at your own pace.

The Genesis library is not deep in role playing games, which is one reason Traysia still has a loyal following. It is an unhurried, warm hearted adventure with a likeable hero and a story that grows in scope, and it rewards players who enjoy reading every line of dialogue. Collectors treat Traysia as one of the quieter treasures of the console, a game that sits comfortably beside the better known Genesis role playing titles and earns its place for anyone building a full picture of the system.
