Troddlers - for SNES

Troddlers came to the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by The Sales Curve and published by Seika. It is a puzzle game with a comic setup: the great magician Divinius told you and your partner, Pokus, to clean out the cellar, and like any sorcerer's apprentices you found something better to do. That box labelled Warning! Instant Magical Troddlers May Zombify If Allowed to Teleport! was simply too tempting, and now hundreds of the little critters have gone out through the teleporter door. Now you have done it, Hokus.

The job is to round them up before they get zombified, and Troddlers spreads that task across 175 fast, funny, frazzling levels. Rather than ordering the creatures about directly, you shape the world around them, placing and removing blocks to steer the wandering Troddlers toward safety. The pace stays quick and the layouts get trickier as you go, and there is room for a second player, so you and a friend can sort out the trouble together.

Troddlers still has a following because it sits in that happy space between a puzzle game and an action game: you are thinking carefully about block placement while critters stream past your feet. The humour helps, and so does the sheer size of it. For collectors, Troddlers is a quieter Super Nintendo puzzle release that rewards anyone looking past the obvious names, and 175 levels means it does not run out in an afternoon. If you like puzzle games that ask you to think fast, Troddlers earns its place on the shelf.
